Penn State landed its top prospect at safety this weekend when four-star safety Dejuan Lane committed to the Nittany Lions on his official visit. The four-star defender concluded a mysterious commitment journey with apparently little drama, scheduling only one official visit despite having 20-plus offers from significant Power Five schools.
Find out more about Lane and how he fits at Penn State from Blue White Illustrated's Breaking News segment. Film analyst Thomas Frank Carr discusses Lane's commitment with the help of recruiting insider Ryan Snyder. Snyder had some prophetic words about Lane on Friday's recruiting podcast, which T-Frank replays for viewers today.

Penn State lands another underrated player
Once again, the Penn State staff finds value in a player with position ambiguity. T-Frank reviews where Lane ranks in the On3 Industry Ranking, how the three main recruiting services label him, and why that position ambiguity probably dilutes his recruiting stock. Next, he'll explain why Lane's size and high school position lend to that ambiguity.
But first, he'll play Snyder's comments from earlier in the week. In them, Snyder recalls a conversation with Penn State safety coach Anthony Poindexter and what insight he gained from that interaction. Then he'll go on to say that Lane is a dark horse to be one of the first commits coming out of the weekend.
"I remember talking with Dex (Poindexter) once and I forget who it was about. It was about how long he is, and Dex says, "Man look at me! I'm a long safety; I'm a tall safety! I love big safeties!" So I always have that in my head when we see a safety that is 6-2, pushing 6-3 and looks like a linebacker. I always have that Dex voice in my head talking about how he likes big safeties."
Next, T-Frank will review Lane's film and what traits he sees in the nearly 6-3 safety. While Lane's speed, size, and potential are all standout skills, one trait stands above them all for T-Frank. Furthermore, he thinks this trait makes Lane a perfect fit for Penn State's defense under Manny Diaz.
Lasty, T-Frank projects where Lane will play in the Penn State secondary and compares him to a 2023 safety commit. He discusses how Penn State has created a new standard of athleticism and play in the seoncdary and where lane fits on that specturm.
