New head coach Ben Johnson brought an undeniable energy to the field, showing why the Bears made him their guy. According to Bears insider Zack Pearson, Johnson was fired up, highly spirited, and fully hands-on throughout practice — a strong indication of the new culture being built in Chicago.
But the biggest story? Caleb Williams. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft looked solid, composed, and confident running the first-team offense. His timing, accuracy, and leadership stood out early, and the buzz around his growth is very real. Johnson also took time after practice to publicly address and clear the air on the "Caleb Williams drama" from 2024, bringing closure to last season’s narrative and helping unite the locker room moving forward.
There were several key roster updates and injuries to note:
Luther Burden III, the exciting rookie WR, was sidelined with a soft tissue injury. The Bears are being cautious, and there's no word yet on the severity.
Braxton Jones, the projected starting left tackle, was out with an ankle injury. His health will be crucial for protecting Williams in 2025.
Andrew Billings also missed practice due to an undisclosed injury.
Ryan Bates, expected to be in the mix along the offensive line, did not practice either.
On the positive side, Jaquan Brisker returned from concussion protocol, and his presence in the secondary is a huge boost to the defense.
We also got promising signs from Gervon Dexter Sr., who continues to show flashes of dominance along the defensive line. There are questions at left tackle, some depth concerns due to injuries, and a lot of work ahead — but the foundation looks strong and the energy is clearly different under Johnson’s leadership.
This OTA was the first real look at the 2025 Chicago Bears, and fans have every reason to be excited.
