In a significant development for BYU basketball, highly touted point guard Egor Demin could announce his decision to return to Provo for his sophomore season instead of entering the 2025 NBA Draft. This news, to be revealed on Tuesday morning (April 8th, according to reports), has sent a wave of excitement through the Cougars fanbase and significantly alters the team's outlook for the 2025-2026 campaign.

Demin, a 6-foot-9 international prospect with exceptional playmaking ability, was projected by many as a potential first-round pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. He showcased his tantalizing skillset throughout his freshman season at BYU, averaging a solid 10.6 points, 5.5 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game, with flashes of brilliance, particularly during BYU's Sweet Sixteen run where he impressed against Alabama.

While Demin possesses a high basketball IQ and rare passing vision for his size, concerns regarding his shooting consistency (27% from three) were noted by NBA scouts. The decision to return to BYU suggests a commitment to further develop his game, particularly his perimeter shooting, under Coach Kevin Young's guidance.

Several factors are believed to have influenced Demin's choice. The arrival of five-star recruit AJ Dybantsa in the 2025 class is undoubtedly a major draw. The prospect of playing alongside a talent of Dybantsa's caliber, forming a potentially dynamic duo, makes BYU an even more attractive destination for Demin's continued development. Demin himself acknowledged the impact of Dybantsa's commitment, stating it could be a reason he wanted to return.

Furthermore, the success BYU experienced in their second Big 12 season and their NCAA Tournament run likely played a role. Demin expressed his belief in the "start of something really beautiful" at BYU, indicating a desire to be part of building a successful program. His relationship with Coach Young, whom he praised, also appears to be a significant factor.

Demin's return is a massive boost for BYU. Paired with the incoming Dybantsa, the Cougars suddenly possess two potential lottery picks for the 2026 NBA Draft on the same roster. This development immediately elevates BYU's status as a potential Top-15 team heading into next season, significantly raising expectations and excitement among the fanbase. The atmosphere surrounding the program is electric, with fans eagerly anticipating the potential of a Demin-Dybantsa led BYU squad competing at the highest levels of college basketball. The decision marks a pivotal moment for the program, signaling a bold ambition for future success.
