Chicago Bears fans — this is the update you’ve been waiting for! First-round pick and No. 10 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, Colston Loveland, has officially received great news on his return timeline to the practice field. The former Michigan Wolverines standout is reportedly ahead of schedule, regaining full range of motion in his shoulder and already catching and running at game speed. With training camp looming, Loveland says he’s “feeling good” and is expected to be a full-go when camp opens — a huge boost for a new-look Bears offense.

At 6-foot-5, 248 pounds, and just 21 years old, Loveland gives the Bears a dynamic and athletic tight end who can line up anywhere on the field. Known for his natural hands, smooth route-running, and explosive run-after-catch ability, Loveland is expected to be a security blanket and red-zone threat for rookie QB Caleb Williams, the No. 1 overall pick. Under the creative offensive vision of new head coach Ben Johnson, formerly of the Detroit Lions, Loveland is projected to play a major role in a modern, motion-heavy offense designed to create mismatches — and Loveland is a walking mismatch.

Scouts loved his combination of size, fluidity, and football IQ coming out of Michigan, where he consistently made clutch catches and showed elite separation ability for a tight end. He was one of the top TE prospects in the nation and was widely viewed as a future star. According to multiple NFL insiders, including reports circulating around draft day, the Rams, Chargers, and 49ers all made serious attempts to trade up for Loveland, but the Bears held firm, viewing him as a cornerstone piece for their offense.

Loveland’s early recovery progress has exceeded expectations. He’s already showing excellent movement, timing, and chemistry with the quarterbacks during walkthroughs and limited drills, and with the way the Bears are structuring their offense, he may emerge as a go-to target as early as Week 1. His quick return also means more valuable reps during minicamps and preseason action — something few rookie tight ends get before hitting the field.

If Loveland continues on this trajectory, don’t be surprised if he becomes one of the breakout stars of the 2025 NFL season. With Caleb Williams slinging the ball, DJ Moore stretching defenses, and a revamped offensive line giving time, the Bears have something brewing on offense — and Loveland could be the X-factor that ties it all together.
